I have had it with MS and windows. I'm not even going to try the new Vista program. I'm so f...ing tired of fixing my computer to get past a virus (and yes I always run with one) that somehow got through or Windows wanting its Disk to fix a problem but then it won't except the damned disk even though its the one that its running from, grrrrr. to hell with it, I'm presently running Linux again.
I would have switched to Linux months or even years ago if it wasn't for the fact that certain programs I was used to didn't have a version or I couldn't find one to take its place. Then there's all the changing a person has to do to switch over. Then you have to learn the new programs and how they differ and all though the differences my be small, when you're a power user like myself with several programs open and running to do the job or jobs you want to do, even these small differences in several programs can impede you progress considerably. But when you have these differences added together with all your personally settings, addons and various component changes it all adds up to a very large pain in the ass. Just the same I am at the point of NO return, and as I've said earlier, I've had it with windows. I know in the end I'll save much more time in the long run once I make the final switch with everything changed over. Then I can be more productive and far less irritated with computer screw ups.
Linux is the Operating system at the moment however I would like to run BSD because their standards are stricter and all programs should look alike with the same sized fonts and such. And when it comes to the new laptop, its going to be an Apple.
The main reason is the damned viruses. In 2000 there were about 50,000 know bugs reeking havoc on our machines. Last year there were over 103,000 and growing. By far the majority of these are targeted at MS machines while until a few months ago a virus protection program could not be easily found for a Linux machine, the reason, there was no need. And While Apple is not immune, it is a far safer Operating system because like Linux, there are very few viruses targeting these as well. Of course things can and do change, but as far as I'm concerned, this is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg as to MS and my feelings of rage throughout the years.
Its not all bad though, as my buddy Dwight at Lets-fixit.com does online computer repairs, his business has grown considerably over the last year alone with no slowing in sight. He is so busy in fact fixing all those MS machines that he has a waiting list of over 200 customers now. So if you're in the repair industry, MS is a good thing, I on the other hand want to use my computer - not fix it.
I wonder if when the phrase was coined, they had an idea it would led to such an understatement - "An Apple a day keeps the Computer Doctor away."
